Hmm, i seem to have some time so i'll blog about yesterday. Being a really good friend (haha), i decided to accompanying nicholas all the way to woodlands library to study and collect a whole lot of textbooks from his friend. It sure was a really long trip to the other end of Singapore. So we studied as we waited. and waited. and waited. an hr and a half. den she finally appeared. the best part is... she didn't bring it. hmm. So nicholas had to go for sectionals at smu before the band rehearsal. We had to brave the extremely bad weather to get to woodlands mrt from the library. Really heavy rain with winds. So nicholas did have his sectionals (not before he had to satisfy his craving for tau huei) and i did my individuals on a couple of pieces. Then we went for dinner with meroy, ralph, vincent and the saxes. (managed to get ralph and vincent to play for SMU) Mr Bill Buchanan, the guest conductor for the night ended up coming early. So we didn't have time to run thorugh the piece beforehand. The first time we played it through for him, oh my, really sounded quite bad. Balances were really off, there were tuning issues and techinical flaws. As he worked thorugh it, it really sounded much better and he successfully got his interpretation of the piece across to the band. Too bad it was only danse diabolique that he was working on. i would have enjoyed it if he could take another piece. As we were packing our instruments, Mr Buchanan, a former clarinetist came over to me and wanted to try the Eb. He said that it had been a really long time since he played it and never has he played such an high-end Eb clarinet. haha, he also remarked that he didn't have any Ebs in his bands as they would be diabolique. HAHAHA. So then nicholas, ralph, vincent and i went back to kopitiam to grab a bite/drink. Glad to know that ralph and vincent would be interested in coming back for practices. Ralph and nicholas mrt-ed home while vincent and i took a bus. Managed to catch up quite a bit with vincent not forgetting his metal-spoon tonguing theory which he insists that i posses. (in a positive way) haha. looking forward to the next band practice! Kenneth blogged at 10:51 AM. |
