The weekend is coming to a close which marks the end of my first week of training at Four Seasons Resort Langkawi. Other than learning about Good Morning Four Seasons Resort Langkawi How may i assist you, its quite a new experience for me firstly, learning from people that come from a completely different culture. I had fun talking to them and getting to know about their lives in Malaysia which is actually quite interesting to me. Secondly, i get to visit a real huge resort complete with the sand, the sun and the sea. I'm starting 'work' tomorrow and actually answering calls. Hopefully that would go well as its my last week at the call centre. Not forgetting that i have to pen my online journal and also get the supervisor evaluation done by a supervisor who has been and will be on maternity leave. That's the least of my concerns for now. I had yesterday and today off as we work 9.5 hr shifts in a 5 day week. Something to be grateful about is that i get to sleep in and actually not worry about my roommate needing the use the toilet as we have the same reporting times. And to put a cherry on top, the only light in our room is spoiled again. I'm not impatient or frustrated or anything. If there's anything that i have learnt in the past 18 years of my life is how to take problems on my stride. And thankfully, that i can do pretty well. Been watching Ugly Betty quite abit this week and it seems that the episodes keep sending out the message of not being afraid to be yourself. Talk about tv being a waste of time. We can learn something from these serials as well. Went for lunch and dinner today by myself. I told myself that i had to step out of my comfort zone to venture beyong the familiar kfc. Which i did and saved me a couple of ringgits. I can't help but feel that i could be better off with some of the tp band people ard here. For example, if i wanted to have lunch and even you've already had it, you would be more than happy to accompany me. Well, that kinda thing happens at tp band. They never let you take your meals alone. I miss that. Isn't that what hospitality is all about? Something that comes from the heart. Some people should be in HTM rather than some who are already in. An eye for an eye and the world goes blind. Reciprocating may not be the best thing to do all the time. Just some food for thought. Kenneth blogged at 7:30 PM. Tuesday, September 16, 2008
Hi to all expecting this post from Langkawi, it seems that the wireless connection here at my residence decided to work tonight so here I am blogging. As some of you might already know, i went to the four seasons resort for the first time on Monday. The HR training manager had arranged for us to meet up with the Management of the hotel which included the Directors of the various departments and also the Resort Manager. Its was quite a lot of people to meet for one day definitely. In the end, we kinda overshot especially with the orientation at the restaurants. You see, there's specific timings whereby there's a bus shuttle that brings us from the resort back to our accommodation and apparently, we missed the 6.15pm one and the next one was at 7.45pm. Well, 6.30pm to 7.45pm's no joke especially when you have absolutely nothing to do. Just as we we were waiting at the car park, one of our colleague at the restaurant asked if we would have a lift back as he was driving. Thats was really unexpected. So we gladly took his offer and went off. His name was Tengku but said that we could call him Matt. Matt had a rather distinct American slang (and i say slang, not accent). Apparently, he lived in Malaysia all his life and was born in Pahang. But somehow, he went to an international school there. Well, finally someone that i could talk to being myself. You see, most of the people here barely speak English. This is especially so for our neighbourhood where the only people that we could talk to were the chinese and we used Mandarin. Even so, some of them could only speak Cantonese. Anyway, we went for dinner with Matt and he was telling us more about the other eating places near where we live. My second day today at four seasons was at the Telephone Call Centre. Didn't answer any calls yet but learnt quite a bit about the departement. Apparently even a 90 'room' resort could also have its peak hours whereby 4 operators a day are not enough. 2 weeks with the operators and then another 2 with the reservations. Wish me luck.
